At a campaign stop in Dubuque, Iowa on Sunday, Democratic 2016 candidate Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) refused to let a reporter bait him into trashing his rival for the nomination, former Sec. of State Hillary Clinton.
According to ReaderSupportedMedia.com, Sanders had just spoken to a crowd of about 2,000 when he made himself available to reporters. One reporter questioned Sanders on his positions on super PACs and the Iraq War in an attempt to goad him into criticizing Clinton.
What I said is that corporate media talks about all kinds of issues except the most important issues, okay? Sanders said sternly. And time after time, Im being asked to criticize Hillary Clinton. Thats the sport that you guys like.
He went on, The reason this campaign is doing well is because were talking about the issues that impact the American people. Ive known Hillary Clinton for 25 years. I like her, I respect her. I disagree with her on a number of issues. No big secret. I oppose the Trans-Pacific Partnership. I want to raise the minimum wage to $15 an hour.

(90,978 posts)I like Sanders. He not only has a good heart but is a gentleman. He and Hillary are not enemies -- never were and never will be. Why pretend they are for a small amount of political gain?

(114,904 posts)I feel quite certain I'm more qualified than you to make that assessment.
And you cheer on posts by certain Hillary supporters that slam bernie and anyone who criticizes Hillary at all.

(1,837 posts)It's clear he wants to be taken seriously as himself, and not as just the Anti-Hillary. Nice to see him pushing back against media villagers who want to turn a job interview into a street fight.

(110,159 posts)clinton has stayed well away also. when the dnc woman was asked about socialists, i heard a lot of people on her because she would not answer the question. as if she couldnt answer ro something. but she kept taking it to repug, because they are all consistently saying... wont go after a fellow dem, we are after repugs.
very consistent.
very good.
and we are not talking about showing a difference in positions, but the bullshit fights media is trying to create.
they did one saying omalley said, valid question going after clintons email. i forget exactly the headline. first seeing what he said in print showed me the title was false, but seeing the video really showed how bullshit it was.
i respect all of them for this position.
but wow. sanders was forceful and blunt on this. good for him.
