You thought Clinton-Obama 2008 was bad? Wait until a white guy steps in a womans path and attacks her integrity.
Youve got to admit it was kind of a stroke of genius for Joe Biden to have that secret meeting with Elizabeth Warren over the weekend. The mind of course jumps instantly to the prospect of a Biden-Warren ticket, even to the idea that Biden could, when announcing his candidacy say next month, also announce that Warren will be his running mate.
Game-changer is a hoary expression in this town, so forgive me, but that really would be one. Id guess Biden would go instantly from his current 13 percent to at least twice that. His ego would have to adjust to having a running mate who is more beloved than he is and who draws crowds about four or five times the size of his. But even something short of an official alliance, a nudge-wink implication that Warren is somehow on team Biden, makes him a much more serious player.

His main obstacle to that would be Sanders. So if Biden enters the race and goes after anyone early, I think it would be Sanders.
He might not even do anything about that. So far the candidates for the Democratic nomination have not gone after each other much. If he enters the race and is seen as changing that, it would look bad for him.

Someone is going to put that video together at some point, and it will be the end of Bernie's candidacy.

(1,464 posts)Joe is beloved by Dem establishment and the Obamas. Plus, he has had a hard life. She attacks his character and expect major Dem hitters to start coming out for Biden. She treats him nice and maybe Obama, Reid and others stay on the sidelines.

(1,464 posts)Biden is well-liked and has had that recent tragedy. Hillary just doesn't have that same likability factor. Plus, she has a long history of dirty campaigning so it will be hard to take her seriously if she whines about Biden hitting her.

I think Bernie's supporters and Hillary's supporters look at it all from two different angles. The BerniePeople see a possibility for a truly transformative moment. The HillaryPeople see a safe and competent person, with perhaps better odds for winning it all.
To think that Bernie's supporters are only in it because they hate Hillary is, to be blunt, a crock.

(14,881 posts)If he runs, he'll be pulling more from Hillary than Biden because he is much closer to Hillary than Sanders on issues.
His ties to corporations and the bankruptcy bill are too strong to lure in Sanders supporters.

(46,585 posts)Biden will pull votes from Clinton. Sanders voters do not agree with the ideology of the Third Way Dems, a club to which both Clinton and Biden belong. I read somewhere that Clinton's voters would have Biden as their second choice, and vice versa, thereby causing virtually no difference to Sanders' totals.

(59,507 posts)Note that Warren would not need to challenge Clinton's integrity --- the contrast on things like big banks and bankruptcy bills exist. Not to mention, she is of course a woman -- a woman, who has risen to consideration because of things that she has led on. Even before becoming a Senator, many credit her for the existence of the credit watchdog agency and many stronger provisions of Dodd/Frank.
As Senator, she has had an impact that is incredibly unusual for a Freshman Senator. She has been far more a leader than Clinton was when she was a Senator, even though she came in as First Lady.
