I have an father who is authentic, but I don't really think his authenticity is charming or endearing, (just to use an example.) I find him to have a little less less filter than I find comfortable.
You have met Sanders, I have met O'Malley. I find O'Malley quite authentic in a very good way. My father, not so much.
Authentic is rather subjective.
I truly am talking about my father, he is authentic.

(110,159 posts)generation. really likes him, and would willing vote clinton.
my youngest soon to be 18 is more rebellious and likes being outside the box and is sanders. but... he is beginning to have some issues on the promises and getting things done. coalition.
he too likes omalley, not a supporter of clinton. in texas, he hears too much garbage about her.

O'Malley's barely made a dent in spite of all that wonderful stuff you mention... why isn't it registering with potential voters?
Sanders/O'Malley would be a great ticket. Sanders always being on the right side of civil rights history (no *evolution* necessary), plus O'Malley's mayoral and gubernatorial experience in Maryland.

the ideas, not the person. So if it's not going to be Bernie, then I'll work for O'Malley. Both come from the same set of Democratic values, though Bernie is more tested because he's been unwavering for 50 years.

(11,589 posts)I know Sanders has your support, and I appreciate that, but O'Malley has a pretty good record as well.
YOu can take a look at Martin's run as a council member, mayor and governor.
and as a mayor, he had an awful lot to say immediately after 9/11 when it came to state and city preparedness wrt to future attacks and how we should prepare.

(3,373 posts)sooner the primary narrows to a race of ideas between the more progressive wing of the party versus the less progressive wing of the party, the better chance we have of a win for the progressive win for the party (or -- failing that -- we have a good debate that may pull Clinton closer to my views on some issues).
I'm having a hard time seeing O'Malley as more than a small rival to Clinton who is generally on Clinton's left.
Like I said, I think O'Malley is just fine. However, dividing the voters who would prefer a more progressive candidate than Clinton among several challengers is one way to ensure that Clinton wins the nomination (and -- BTW -- I am not in a panic about that, she's clearly the odds-on favorite at this point and I'll happily support her in the general election if she wins the primary).
We still have over 5 months before the Iowa caucuses, so I'm not trying to hurry O'Malley out of the race by any means, but if O'Malley doesn't take off in Iowa or New Hampshire, won't O'Malley's support mostly go to Sanders?
elleng
(131,370 posts)Governor O'Malley is WAY left of hrc, not 'small' in any way, you and others must learn about him, and it's telling in important issues.
Here are his goals: https://martinomalley.com/15-goals/ importantly 13, 14 an 15, Glass Steagal, Anti-trust, Campaign finance reform. Read more about him here: http://www.democraticunderground.com/?com=forum&id=1281

(3,373 posts)will hound you with PMs trying to convince you that ontheissues.com proves that Clinton is a Communist somewhere just to the left of Troysky).
But -- comparing O'Malley to Sanders -- I like Sanders better on
1.creating retirement savings accounts as an augmentation alternative to increasing to social security (O'Malley favors, Sanders and I oppose)
2.increased taxation of businesses (Sanders and I favor this, O'Malley has not made a big issue of this)
3.shrinking the current military (Sanders and I favor this, O'Malley has not made a big issue of this)
4.separation of church and state and freedom from religion (Sanders and I favor this, O'Malley has not made a big issue of this)
5.legalizing marijuana (Sanders and I favor this, O'Malley opposed this)
With that said, do you agree or disagree that if O'Malley were to withdraw, that his support would mostly go to Sanders because both Sanders and O'Malley are left of Clinton on many key issues?
elleng
(131,370 posts)(w vanilla!!!)
ABSOLUTELY AGREE that MO'M's support goes to Sanders, left of hrc on EVERYTHING! That's why we're HERE!!!

askew
(1,464 posts)Bernie's biggest crowd in Iowa was 2800, I believe. But, most of his crowds are smaller in Iowa which is pretty common.
These two crowds of approx. 300 each are the 2nd and 3rd biggest crowds O'Malley's seen in Iowa so far.
Hillary's had 1 event bigger than those in Iowa as well.
So, yes. Huge crowds.
