You could make the same claim about the protests against racism and the Jim Crow laws. Should MLK not have opposed the war? Were the three students killed in Mississippi at fault for their murders? Not only is it wrong to blame anti-war protestors for Nixon and prolonging the war, it isn't even factual. I was there too at that time and to blame protestors for Nixon is also intellectually lazy. There were a ton of factors, including the repubs southern strategy and George Wallace taking away many Democratic voters. A reaction to the civil rights movement, which sometimes became violent and led to riots. The repubs won big in 1966, setting the stage for a repub victory in 1968. And that was before any kind of large scale antiwar protests began.

This ridiculous claim has been made on here before as if it's obviously true. It's not. Any serious reading of history says it's not that simple. But when it comes to this issue there is a lot of claims masquerading as fact.
