... to hear commentators refer to inflation as if it was a capricious entity with motives beyond the comprehension of economists. And when they blame consumers for inflation, I have dark thoughts of violence. Inflation isn't a naturally occurring phenomenon, and consumers don't cause it; it is price gouging, pure and simple, but the media would carve their own eyes out with a rusty spoon before they'd state the truth, because reasons.
Prices don't raise themselves. When cornered, corporate apologists whip out their favorite rationalization: "Our first responsibility is to our stockholders."
Fuck that noise. Their first responsibility is to be honest and decent human beings; a task at which they fail miserably. But they're corporatists, so whaddaya expect? That's like expecting a dung beetle to play Beethoven on the bongos. Ain't gonna happen.
