and more about how shitty Dental Insurance usually is.
My favorite story for comparison is a friend of mine who messed up his shoulder and required surgery with months of physical therapy totalling well over $85K. Grand total that he actually had to pay? $25 copay up front, which is pretty aweseome.
At the same time, I had to have a root canal, totalling about $675. Grand total that I had to pay? $640, which is less awesome.
This has been more or less the same story at every dentist I've seen in my adult life, across a range of dental insurance policies. Also, every dentist I've ever seen has sat me down to outline how they planned to spend my next $30,000 for me.
So although I'm sure that they wouldn't pocket that $30,000 themselves, it's a preposterous sum to lay on someone whose very presence in the office demonstrates that they don't have thousands to spare for dental maintenance.
