The tone they got could, in those days, be obtained by cranking up a Standell or a Fender way up.
With no master volume, that just meant loud.
The thump in the low end, the ping of the pick...
Still pretty clean, but the bark of a loud amp.
Dale to an even greater extent, but Duane's sound has some angry to it.
