Blair to get US Medal of Freedom
Source: BBC

Former UK Prime Minister Tony Blair will receive the highest civilian award in the US - the Presidential Medal of Freedom - next week.

In his last week in office, President Bush will award the medal to Mr Blair, former Australian PM John Howard and Colombian President Alvaro Uribe.

All three leaders had been "staunch allies" of the US, particularly against terrorism, said the White House.

The ceremony will take place at the White House on 13 January.

Well, I suppose the American Mad King George had to reward the British Benedict Arnold.

24. Churchill wasn't Labour
He was a Liberal or a Tory, depending which part of his career you look at. Still, I see your point. Churchill kept us going through WWII, was one of history's great thinkers and dispensed wisdom like cigar ashes. Blair lied us into war, dispensed cliche soundbites, destroyed his party and did real damage to the country.

15. This is Blair's reward for spreading Cheney's lies....
... about Saddam's (non-existant) WMD's.

The British public didn't fall for it, and now Blair can't even walk the streets of his own country in safety.

Maybe Bush / Cheney will go hide in exile, too.... We can only hope they're jailed first.

18. Marvelous
When Blair set sail from these British shores, Bush appointed him to be the Middle East Peace Envoy. Clearly, he's a brilliant man and deserving of any honour anyone can think of. /sarcasm.

TPTB aren't even trying to hide what they have done. Must be a relief to those who have no conscience.

22. So were we
I can remember it like it was yesterday. 1997, Labour came in with a sweeping mandate and we all thought it was the last death knell of Thatcherism. First year or so was great, then they started being more Tory than the Tories. Than the wheels came off. We thought it was a bright new day; it turned out to be "meet the new boss, same as the old boss".

... means less than winning the prize in a box of Cracker Jacks. "Staunch allies" Tony the Poodle and Hardcore Howard = lapdogs.
