BEIJING (AP) -- Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi has renewed China's resolve to work with the United States to strengthen bilateral ties during a telephone call to U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, the official Xinhua News Agency said.

During Friday's call, Yang also extended China's congratulations to the newly inaugurated President Barack Obama and his administration, Xinhua said. The exchange came during the 30th anniversary of official relations between the two sides.

''China-U.S. relations are one of the most important bilateral relations in the world,'' Xinhua cited Yang as saying. ''China is willing to work with the United States to constantly view and handle bilateral relations from a strategic and long-term perspective.'''>>>

1. DOES THIS MEAN BOTH COUNTRIES CAN CONTINUE....
playing pussyfoot with each other? Or does this mean that China is willing to engage in discussions on Unfair Trade, Human Rights abuses, pollution? The pollution alone isw stagering. During this period of time when its incrediblely cold, coal-fired boilers are everywhere. When I flew back in Dec. I thought it was cloudy--as in rain or snow.

What does it mean? Does it mean that China will continue to restrict students who want to go abroad for an education? The education system in China is designed to keep the public stupid. Then when people want to learn english, they have to hire smucks like me to teach them.

Does it mean China will continue to block outside information on the TV or online? Some internet bars or "wongba" are blocked.

I have my doubts as to how Hillary is going to stand up to China. I'll be surprised if there is the slightest change. The Chinese Chairman, (in China, they call them leaders for some odd reason) Hu Jintao has got a grip on everything--including the economy--and for another five years too. And with major expansion everywhere you turn, there is no way he will slow down China's growth.

China talks a good game, but has extreme difficulty in listening to anyone else.

'pledging to fight the turmoil at the latest round of high-level China-U.S. economic talks in December.

Among key agreements, they promised $20 billion to finance imports by developing countries and cooperation on regulating financial risks. Both sides also stressed the importance of cooperation to combat a potential rise in trade protectionism.'
