Miers & Bork? - A Freelance Anchor For MSNBC Told Me, Off the Record... |
|
...that there's talk in D.C. suggesting that the Miers nomination was calculated to fail -- so that Bush can push through a nominee who will, "...out-Bork Bork." (...Gonzales would be my guess.)
Think about it. Wouldn't the current climate in Washington be right for this to happen?

As I posted before:
You give these retarded chimps (apologies to all retarded chimps) far too much credit.
Bush wanted the only other person on the planet besides himself that thought he was "the mostly brilliant man I've ever met". He wanted a clone, and a clone that could be counted on to protect him against any lawsuits going up to the SCOTUS.
Harriet Miers = more cronyism and ineptitude, not a master plot
BTW, what the hell is a freelance anchor?

|
"its august & because we're so much like the french, everyone's on vacation, and we forgot to schedule an anchor today. quick, get one of the freelance anchors in here!"
either that, or it means unemployed.

22. And remember that Bush likes loyalty |
|
Roberts helped him out before so this was payback for him and also for the corporations who have helped him. So whomever is going to be nominated next has to be loyal to him. Who else will that be? Is Gonzalez loyal enough?

And very effective, too, because there was no way that nomination could stand. Damn him.

Reid even praised her nomination.

|
The plebes are taking notice and they will reject a Super Bork. The only caveat is that Dems. need to mount a staunch opposition campaign of their own. Remember it was the Thugs who derailed Miers, not the Dems.

6. Gonzalez Would Be Slaughtered by the Christo-Fascists |
|
Bush would face the same lunatics AGAIN.
He's in a real pickle. If he picks a real loon, he faces a shodown/fillibuster and does so from a VERY weakened position.
If he picks a stealth candidate, he faces the same problems he just went through.
If he picks a moderate, again, the Christo-Fascists will go berserk, even more so because he fucked them TWICE in a row.
There's no good option for him at this point. None.

They've succumbed to the demands of the far-fundie-reichwing for a guaranteed reichbot judicial activist akin to Bork, Rehnquist, Scalia, or Thomas.
How about Judge Lawrence Silverman?

torture, questionable behavior re the initial stages of the Plame investigation when he was White House counsel, not conservative enough perhaps.

|
I'm not saying this is so but; Rove could have (knowing that Republicans would balk at the Miers choice) encouraged Bush to make this nomination. Upon its failure, the GOP would be unified and galvanized against any opposition to a radical with a resume.

13. NO! This actually make it HARDER for Bush to appoint another extremist |
|
That is the beauty of, as Harry Reid pointed out on the floor today. This exposes the raw nerve, lays it all out in the open, for it wasn't the democrats that stopped Miers, and it wasn't even the republicans. It was the religious extremists. This fact will make it easier for the democrats to DEMAND someone more in line with mainstream America, since Bush has sworn there was no "litmus test." Bullshit. He just proved, beyond a shadow of a doubt, there there is a very, very serious litmus test indeed.

15. I can't guess what this clown will do anymore. |
|
I don't think it will make a difference to HIM. He'll still try something stupid like Gonzales or his cleaning lady, or Priscilla Owens, or anyone with some dirt on him, or a favor which needs to be repaid. It's obvious he doesn't take the gravity of the job seriously.

19. i think harry reid was brilliant on this one..and * went along |
|
with harriet with no intention of ever her getting through congress or senate hearings...thinking he could then soften the indictments by pulling harriet off when the heat got the worst..therefore getting the fundie base back in his good stead...i think it was supposed to happen though..after... indictments came down..but i do not think * anticipated such a ground swell of fervor among the reich wing..as powerful as it has been...so now they had to pre-empt the indictments...i really thought * thought indcitments were coming down today..thursday...so he was going to bring it on...just before fitzgerald announced..but realize fitz announced tommorrow press conference right after * announced harriet stepping down...fitz beat * at his own game!!
Harriet was never going to be confirmed..* knew that before he announced her...she was smoke and mirrors...
but now i think he is toast...he will never get through a hard core supreme court justice..harry reid beat him at his own game too...so now the dems can use the fillibuster with impunity!
what a game of chess!!

20. No. ChimpCo can't play checkers, much less chess |
|
He did not intend Miers to fail-- he wanted his clone in there to protect him. It is just that Chimpy fails to understand that he can't simply get his way anymore, he has no political capital. But why should he? Soc. Sec and now Miers are the only time he hasn't gotten exactly what he wanted.

25. How many of you think that Miers withdrew for precisely the reason she |
|
gave? That it would have entailed a fight over personal documents that would reveal who knows what? I imagine 9/11, WHIG, Plamegate, and B*'s past history would all be a part of these documents (maybe even her role in SCOTUS 2000, like Roberts?)

|
It was reported then that stonewalling on the documents was going to be the excuse ChimpCo used to allow the withdrawal. Simply a tactic to allow the retreat.
