early-morning strolls through my 'hood' this week - hills and all. My calves are screaming at me. But - it is nice to be out early - birds chirping and the smell of honeysuckle in the air.........ahhhh spring!

4. Free weights. And sometimes walking. |

I'm a 50 ish female. I have a book called Strong Women Stay Young. It has some basic exercises that were tried on very frail, little old ladies (like 80 years old). The weights increased bone and strengthened muscles and improved balance. Since I wasn't nearly that far gone I use much heavier weights, but it still isn't heavy duty. It's just enough to keep things in shape. If I would do them more regularly, that is. I also do some pilates floor exercises. And I garden in the spring and summer. That and the occasional walk to view neighborhood gardens are about it.
Easy stuff. I've never been the athletic type. But I like these because I can watch Washington Journal or home, gardening, or cooking programs at the same time. :-)
