3. I went for "unnatural monsters"

And I'm sure Carl Kolchak would agree!

4. Are you talking real life or nightmares?
Natural monsters are scarier in real life because they actually exist and can wreak various sorts of mayhem on you and your family.

But unnatural monsters are tons scarier in nightmares because they're, well, unnatural. They threaten the entire fabric of the natural order. They corrupt whatever they touch and turn it into more of themselves. They hint at horrific truths just beyond the borders of comprehension. They are inexorable and undefeatable and remote from all human passions.

Movies about natural monsters may try to make them seem more like the unnatural kind -- inhuman and unstoppable -- but we know they really aren't like that. Even Jack the Ripper was just one more ordinary creep who happened to get away with it. So those movies may get our hearts pounding as we root for the poor victims to get away and flinch when they don't. But they don't haunt our dreams for years the way the unnatural kind do.

5. My girlfriend and I had a similar conversation a
couple of weeks ago. She said that I was a "sick fuck" for watching movies like "Savior" where fairly realistic and based-on-a-true-story type killing occurs- movies that have morals and, I feel, help me weigh out my values and understand the world better. Of course, just a few days before we'd watched "Resident Evil," which is ridiculously bloody, and a movie she happens to love. I pointed out to her that the type of movies SHE likes make LIGHT of killing people- in fact some of them make killing people humorous. How sick is THAT, I said?
So, I dunno. I'm abstaining on this one.
Did this even really relate to the topic at all? LOL anyway....

7. Natural Monsters are worse

No TV/Movie monster ever killed 6 million people. Their damage is limited to the confines of the screne.

I think the monsters of our literature and popular culture serve an important purpose. They are a way for us to work out what to do with the real monsters, and discern the merely different from the truely evil.

8. I refuse to participate
in your poll, due to the obvious absence of Republicans and Neo-Cons from the available choices. :P

9. Unnatural monsters are worse

Natural monsters can go down after getting clipped with a baseball bat just like anyone else. Unnatural monsters? Hah. They eat that shit for breakfast. Try shooting an unnatural monster. Go ahead. Try. If you don't have a silver bullet, that's your ass.

10. Reminds me of a bumper sticker I saw last weekend...
In Terre Haute, Indiana. A local tatoo parlor named Mike's Tatoos apparently gives these out to customers:

"Jeffery Dahmer Says Mike's Tatoos Taste Best"

Grossed me out...
