Do the latest iPods still put gaps between the tracks when you play them? |
|
I listen to a lot of electronic music where it's mixed continuously, and as a result I think the most annoying thing about the iPod is that it puts those tiny gaps between the tracks when you play it back, thus interrupting the flow. I'm thinking about getting a bigger mp3 player, but if they still haven't fixed this gap problem I think I might just go for another brand this time. These things have been out for, what, almost four years now, and are the biggest sellers, you think they'd come up with a way of buffering the next track enough or doing whatever else they need to so that it doesn't have to put a gap there.
If someone knows of an mp3 player that doesn't do that, let me know.

1. The Rio Karma is the only one I know of right now |

But they discontinued that. I assume whatever they are replacing it with (or have replaced it with, if they already have) will as well.

When you're ripping tracks onto iTunes (before loading them onto your iPod), before pressing the import button at the top-right, shift-click (select) all the tracks you want to merge. Then go to Advanced and "merge tracks." It'll combine the songs into a single track.
It's not ideal - I can't, for instance, jump straight to Sun King in the Beatles' Abbey Road medley, but it's better than interrupting the flow.

3. Preferences>Audio>Crossfade Playback |

Easy peasy to fix; can also merge tracks (Advanced>Join CD Tracks)
(Instructions for iTunes users - can't help with any other interface)
