"Why didn't they (those stuck in NO) get out? They knew it was coming." |
|
I am so sick of this!!! Of course, I keep asking the same thing:
"Why didn't they (FEMA, theNational Guard, the US military, and most especially, Bushturd ) get out (and get ready ahead of time to provide the immediate assistance that would most assuredly be needed - from day one!!!) THEY KNEW IT WAS COMING!"
Instead of news stories 3 days after the storm had passed about no food and medicine or fuel for generators at NO are hospitals, we could and SHOULD have been hearing about how these items were air lifted to the Super Dome and area hospitals immediately after the winds died down!
We should have been hearing about how the expected looting never materialized because people were actually provided with assistance. My God! there are so many things that we SHOULD be hearing that we will NEVER hear as long as that little turd and his ilk are in charge of things!

1. Because they couldn't? |
|
There are about 100,000 New Orleanians without cars.
I used to be one of them.
I've been war-gaming this ("Well, I'm sure my friends in the movement would have bugged me out to Atlanta...") all week.

4. Somebody missed the point here . . . |
|
I was saying that it was so obvious that this would be a disaster.
It was obvious also that there would be lots of people who would not be able to get out for whatever reason.
THEREFORE,
The obvious thing to do was to mobilize the National Guard, FEMA, and other agencies, groups, etc. so that the sppropriate assistance would be available IMMEDIATELY, if not sooner.
Oh, I forgot, everybody is in Iraq.

1 - those people have a place to go AND 2 - they have the means to get there.
Not everyone owns a car and has the ability to get out of town. Fucking idiots.

I'm absolutely shocked at the number of DU'ers that apparently possess superhuman abilities and can read minds. They all just KNOW that all the people that got trapped, had some way to get out or they just did it on purpose. Of course, because they wanted to get stuck on their roofs. :eyes: :sarcasm:
It must be wonderful to know what everyone else is thinking and how things should be done in a disaster that you conveniently are involved in.
 :grr:
Oh, and thank you to the OP, too. (((Ashling))) I'm really sorry this has all been so frustrating for you, too. Hang in there--some of us will make it through this by supporting each other--not by saying hurtful, evil things that are affecting loved ones, friends, etc.

I usually don't go near GD :) , but that was heartening.
And those that could and should have mobilized for the relief and rescue operations had their heads in the sand and their asses in the White House.

10. I wonder if they should have done a truly mandatory |
|
evacuation, like where they pull you out of your house whether you like it or not. That way they wouldn't be spending time rescuing . I doubt though there would have been manpower to do a mandatory evacuation.

13. Because bush is not Clinton. |
|
When you have one of the smartest people on the planet in charge, these things seem to be taken care of. SOME Presidents can actually use their knowledge to mobilise their country, and some presidents owe their soul to big money, and a weasel. That 80 billion would come in handy right now.

14. I share your outrage. What do I think the reason is? |
|
I think it's more than one reason, like lots of reasons. Beside the fact that Bush is the sorriest son of a bitch to ever exist in this country, most of the people who normally do that kind of work (National Guard) are something called "deployed" right now in Iraq. That's just one factor. I'm still typing. Another couple of reasons guaranteed to piss a bunch of people off, racism/classism. The news media has been zooming in on and interviewing angry black people at the Superdome for 4 days now. The only white people they have interviewed have been poor white people. Let them show some well dressed higher up middle class white people who need rescuing and they will all fall all over themselves to get fishing boats down there if they have to to rescue those people.
Uhm, another guaranteed truth that'll piss people off, the Red Cross collects money and blood every time a disaster happens, but they never have any when the next disaster happens. Now, let's look at this with a grain of clarity. When people donate the blood and money every time we have a disaster, the donations cannot possible ALWAYS come out to a dime so that they money is ALL used when the disaster is eventually straightened out. If $93,286,001 is donated, what makes the vast majority of people think that exactly $93,286,001 is spent on that disaster every time? I want to know the answer to that. What makes people actually believe that they are really doing that much to help people that they spend every last dime every last time there is a disaster? That's not even probable much less possible. It's bullshit. They spend the money advertising their fancy logo all over the place and paying people like Elizabeth Dole to pretend to give a shit.
Let's be honest here. Those who said the country would go to hell in a hand basket weren't kidding. They were right. Not only is the government too drunk on power, but they have NO ABILITY to fake compassion believably. And their followers aren't much better at it.

valid points. Thank you for making them, and for not being dismissive of the feelings of people here (as so many seem really good at doing these days).
