Poll question: When was the last time you cried? |
|
I mean literally.
I've found, as a man, that nasty feelings tend to build up in my mind and body, especially in times like these. Biochemically, (and this is all just theory) I think a person has to let go of these feelings physically if they're going to maintain civility. If they aren't let go, in time, they turn into anger, and the result can be bad, for everyone.
This, of course, is just my personal experience. I think about it when I think about my mental health. It's a catharsis, and as such I keep track, sort of.
But, the thing is that I know we've all been under a good amount of stress, lately. Thus, this issue kind of concerns me, for all of us.
So....when was the last time you cried- and let it ALL out?

1. I don't cry very often. I did cry this week for 5 minutes but then |
|
I had things to do so that was it.
I can't remember the last time I cried and let it all out - I think it was about 17 years ago at my MIL funeral.
That seems like a long time ago.
I feel like I've tried to control crying so much that I'm incapable of it.
When my husband left for hurricane relief last week (and I know he's going to be gone for 30 days) I couldn't/didn't cry. His partner's wife had been crying for days, was crying all over the place. I felt bad like it meant that I didn't care as much as her that my husband was leaving.

2. It definitely doesn't mean that you don't care as much. |
|
But do you feel as if when you allow yourself to cry hard, you are able to cleanse yourself of a lot of or most of these nasty feelings?
Your partner's wife sounds like she was crying a lot but couldn't get ahold of herself. I think crying can be very effective in cleansing one's self, but it can also act as a manifestation of hysteria, which of course is never good.

5. It's been so long. I do think it helps wash negative feelings |
|
away.
I wish I could cry, it just feels like all the sadness breaks off pieces of my heart but there is nothing to heal it back again. I think crying would probably do that.

3. Yesterday I bawled like a baby |
|
I was reading a post from a young lady whose family had not evacuated from NOLA - and she was terrified for them and couldn't reach them to see if they were OK. (Happy ending - they were.)
This boys don't cry thing really chaps my ass. Because I have external gonads, I can't feel anything? Don't think so.
Khash.

of crying recently.
I get choked up pretty easily, actually.
I feel those "poignant" things.

6. The menstrual cycle pretty much ensures that |
|
I never go longer than 4 weeks without a good cry. And afterwards I do feel physically and emotionally better. The hard part is controlling it so it doesn't happen at work.

7. I blubbered when I saw the fear in a little girl's eyes on TV last week |
|
but I do not blubber for long because whatever makes me blubber inevitably makes me angry
