Okay yet another insurance rant |
|
As if I haven't had trouble enough with goddamned CIGNA with my health issues, now they are pulling shit with my mother and stepfather. My stepfather needs backsurgery..bad..He's in a ton of pain and can barely function. He was supposed to have it tomorrow but because of the shitty insurance company its been put off for another 8 days.
Why? Because according to the bean counters, as of December 31st they no longer are covered by CIGNA. Uh what? Now, my mother did retire from her job, but she kept the insurance, not as a COBRA deal but just as an individual coverage. And she's still paying for it.In fact she just sent them an EIGHT HUNDRED DOLLAR payment for the month. Yet they say she and my stepfather aren't covered. And she tried talking to them, and of course..they aren't helpful. My mother is a really nice laid back person but she got so frustrated she ended up yelling at the person on the phone. She ended up calling back the next day, and actually talking to someone HELPFUL there (thats a shock to me, I've never had anyone there be helpful). So now they are "working on it". Meanwhile, they are technically uninsured and my stepfather has to endure another week of pain (oh and he can't take his painkillers either because of the up coming surgery). God I'm so sick of these games. I hope health care reform is a topic for Obama SOON.

Well I could see it if your teenage years were like mine...
Maybe the payment hasn't been processed yet so they're claiming they haven't paid for their coverage. I hope they get it resolved.

5. Call the board of Insurance. |
|
I'm sure you've done that already, though, knowing how much you've had to battle with them. NEVER arbitrate. Go straight to the Insurance Board.

It's not too much work, and it's the only thing that makes them sit up and take notice. Cigna kept denying a claim, each time for a different reason. When I sent proof that the law was in my favor, they then changed the reason they weren't paying me. This happened 3 times, until I reported them to the state board, and voila! Success!
Did the same thing with another company, after spending countless hours on the phone fighting with various levels of management, writing and losing an appeal, etc. Miraculously, when I reported them to the board, they suddenly realized I was right.
I swear they just try to torture and demoralize you till you give up. But I'm too damn stubborn. :D
