Time to gear up War Protests Again! |
|
Edited on Wed Nov-17-04 11:07 PM by Quixote1818
The best time to start HUGE WAR Protests again will be after the Iraq Elections. If the elections are a mess as I expect they will be and all hell is STILL breaking loose then it will be time to withdraw and and time for us to raise hell in front of the Capital Building! Their will be absolutyly no hope left for the War. Bush's excuses for staying will have run out and I expect support for the war will be at an all time low. If the elections don't seem to impact the situation then our ONLY option is to get out right away and claim some kind of bazaar victory.
Buy the way! I do believe we need to continue to fight the terrorists in Iraq but we can do that with special forces and fight them where they are at. I believe the vast majority of the insurgency are not terrorists, yet! However the longer we stay the more likely they are to become terrorists.

1. Sorry, I can't get past your first sentence. |
|
He's responsible for instigating the whole thing, and that was a year-and-a-half ago. The world warned him not to do it in several marches. After all this time, he deserves no extension.
Besides, crediting him with any improvements that may take place ignores the fact that he's shifted reasons for invading Iraq many times. A free Iraq was not the reason he invaded.

3. I agree, the only way he can claim suscess |
|
is if they find WMDs. Short of that, this is a misguided failure no matter what anyone says.

4. I am just saying that after the elections the Anti War movement will have |
|
more support and be taken more seriousely. People are waiting to see what will happen after the elections.

5. You may be right, but bush must still be held accountable |
|
for having no goddamned reason for invading.
I think the only ones who don't take the antiwar movement seriously are half of Americans. Regardless of world opinion, though, they are unfortunately the ones who carry the most clout.
However, we cannot allow him or anyone else to forget that this was a war of his own choosing, and if by some miracle something decent happens in Iraq in seven or eight weeks, bush does not get a gold star.

8. I agree but believe me if Iraq is turned into a democracy Bush will |
|
get credit and will be loved. Americans love winning even when we should not have been playing the game in the first place. Politics are politics and their is nothing you or I can do about that.

6. Everyone is COMPLETELY missing the point of this post! |
|
I agree the war was wrong!!! I am talking about timing and when the best time to start the war protests up again will be. That time will be after the elections. Most of the country knows the war was a mistake but they want to win! I say we give them until after the elections and if things are not getting better then it's time to start gearing up huge protests again! Their will be no more milestones for us to reach and public support for the war will be at an all time low! Why is that so hard to understand???

9. When you said bush has two months to turn things around |
|
I thought you were willing to give him wiggle-room. He deserves none, and I made up my mind about the rest of your post based on your title. Sorry if my presumptions were, well, presumptuous.
If protests begin in earnest BEFORE the elections are supposed to be held, that would better remind everyone that the elections and a "free Iraq" is just a convenience for bush.
My two cents.

7. You are in the minority |
|
There are many here as well as elsewhere who say that we must stay to ensure stability. The only question is how long is long enough? Until stability is achieved, yes? Fine, I'll buy that, but what if stability is never achieved? What do we do then? What if the biggest reason Iraqis are fighting us is because we're in their face all day long? How do we know that is not already rapidly becoming the case?
I fear this war is lost. They hate us and want us gone, and I don't think no amount of damage control is going to contain that. If we're not going to leave until people stop killing us and if they're not going to stop fighting until we're gone, what is the answer to this problem? Keep killing them and hope stability comes when everyone who can use a weapon is finally dead?
100,000 dead Iraqis means millions who may have a reason for revenge.

10. How am I in the minority if I agree with your post 100%? |
|
Are you guys just not getting what I am saying? This is just strange? My post is about timing, not if Bush would ever be right in what he did.

12. Well, the problem is many would tell you we must stay... |
|
To ensure stability. The problem I have with the argument is that it assumes that we're being killed for every reason except that we're on their land and that we killed many of their own.

14. I think their will be civil war but that is inevitable! Better sooner than |
|
later. Thats for them to work out with themselves and why loose 30 or 50,000 Americans in the process?

11. Or put another way, pulling out now |
|
means fewer enemies for America later on?
There is no "winning" this thing for either side. It's broken. You can only try to glue things back together (in bush's image of course), and it'll only LOOK like bush tried to glue it back together.
I think it's become an issue of pride. Whoops, george guilty of a deadly sin? No way!

Very, very few souls on Capitol Hill will tell you we should simply get out. They'd rather say that we should first ensure stability, then turn things over to the UN or to Iraqis, and then get out.
My concern is whether or not stability can be achieved if it becomes the case that many of them are fighting us simply because we're on their home soil or because we killed someone they loved. If that's the case, the fighting will never end until the last soldier takes his boot off Iraqi soil.

15. To you and me this is obvious! We had a narrow window over their |
|
but that window has closed up and now the longer we stay the worse things will become. The war is lost! The best thing we can do is get out and let them work things out on their own.
If the elections don't change things then nothing will.

You don't have to march on the Whitehouse yet, but you can still express your opposition to the war...I've been wearing my black arm band since the seige of Fallujah started.
