Alaska Utah Wyoming Idaho North Dakota South Dakota Nebraska Kansas Oklahoma Texas Indiana Missouri Louisiana (getting very tough for a once liberal state) Mississippi Alabama South Carolina North Carolina Georgia Tennesssee Kentucky
Please note that I only picked states that have an overwhelming synergistic effect of electing conservative Republicans based on a large part of the state being either staunchly social conservative or libertarian with all enough of a mix for both.
Also note that I did not select social conservative states like West Virginia and Arkansas due to the liberal views on economic issues.I did not pick states like Montana or Virginia because I think they are clearly trending DEmocratic (Montana always was liberal).
Also note that I did not pick states that are social liberal but full of Democratic politicicans that easily jump start their career's by siding with every military and corperate leach in the state. Maryland , Delaware, New Jersey , Conneticuit , New York , are states that have succumbed to politicicans like this. This presents a MAJOR problem however , and compounds the problem.
Also note that while its true we have elected Senators from some of these states, know that they have fallen fast in the last decade.ND,SD , Neb, Indiana , and Louisiana still have Democrats but in 3 of those states the wins were 50.1% , 52% , and 51%. Landreiu won 52%-48% against a weak opponent and frankly found an issue (sugar) to save her butt late in the race even against her 2nd tier opponent.Nelson is as conservative as any Republican and only won a 51%-49% squeeker because he was a popular governor from past times.Tim Johnson won with 500 votes in 2002 but Daschle couldnt hold on.Indiana has a corperate whore named Evan Bayh who is very popular , he doesnt do us any good on most economic issues. In North Dakota , we have been very lucky to have center-left populists like Dorgan and Conrad.Enjoy them while they last.
Misouri and Louisiana were the toughest states to include. But since social issues are becoming the biggest issues around for BOTH partys , especially the bases , I decided the heavy Evangelical population in Missouri and heavy Pro-Life majority in Louisiana made these top conservative states. The most religious Christians have the most kids , so these states are clearly Pro-GOP territory.
What does all this have to do with the filibuster? Simple. It means that even if we win all the other conservative or center-right states , we cant pass anything EVER over the veto of the minority. We can win every Senate seat in Colorado , Nevada, New Mexico , Montana , Virginia , West Virginia , Florida , Arkansas , Iowa , Wisconsin , Minnesota , New Hampshire (a state with many economic conservatives even if we elect a Democrat), etc. not to mention Pennsylvania , Ohio, and Michigan and STILL wont be able to pass anything.
WE cant even hold Democratic states from GOP hands as it is.If we want to defend the filibuster, we better get serious about defeating Snow, Collins, and Chafee.
The sad thing is that there is a solid core of 15 Senate Democrats who vote conservative with the GOP on every major regulatory , economic, military , corperate , etc. issue and most social issues except abortion. Really its far more than that but on any 1 issue , GOP gets at least 15 Senate DEmocrats and if it lost 1 it would gain another to stop a liberal filibuster.
I have been depressed by the DEmocratic party many times in my life but this filibuster issue has frankly KILLED liberalism. Why? Because the only hope we ever had was in killing the filibuster rule. Now the GOP has ARCHIVES full of quotes from every stupid Democratic Senator talking about the "wonders" of that "God-send" the filibuster.
I am declairing liberalism dead.No need to vote anymore folks. Its over.
