Unbelievable! I can't frigging stand it anymore... |
|
A patient of mine, a progressive, extraordinarily bright lady, just came in, was very happy about the election results and then, when I dissed Palin, she replied, "Ya gotta give her lotsa credit: she's a ballsy lady."
I replied, "I don't have to give her any credit, she's a tawdry mess and ignorant as well."
this lady actually got mad at me...WTF is it these days? Is everyone gone insane? I can't dislike a woman because then I'm a sexist pig? I MAY be a sexist pig, but this ain't the reason!

I've found that some women have an instinctive defensive response to criticism of other women from a man.
Part of me understands it, part of me is like wtf, come on.

2. Dont worry. Women are bashed for not liking certain women too. |

Its just that many of us are used to it by now.

talking about, "being ballsy", has nothing to do with it.
having some brains would help.

5. I am getting a little tired of the gender card being played whenever a woman is criticised |
|
This particular woman deserves criticism--it has nothing to do with her gender. You are perfectly within the bounds of propriety to criticise her unless you are using sexist language to do so that demeans all women.

political or otherwise. I am most genteel, you'd be surprised.
And one more thing...I for one, dont' ever tell anyone or instruct anyone in the ways or means of their jobs, businesses, or professions.

17. Yes, I can do anything I want once the patient broaches it. |
|
I would never wear a button in the office, nor would I deliberately pick a fight as it were, but I answer all questions and engage in all manners of discussion. Being a professional means that i treat each patient according to their needs. If someone needs to talk to me, I talk to them. It's part of the treatment and patient management.
most of my patients are die-hard Dems anyway. It's easy here.

True, I have no idea your specialty; there's just no professional environ I enter: medical, dental, vision, cable company, grocery store, etc, or other, where such exchanges take place who knew this brave new world would go viral so quickly  Maybe not so "easy" for patients with contrary views

15. Did you patient actually call you a sexist pig because of your response? |
|
Or are you assuming that her anger was based on sexism? Maybe she just genuinely likes Palin, and didn't appreciate having her opinion dissed.

we keep all discussions polite and above-reproach.
for example, if someone comes in and says, "I can't believe that that %@^@$^ was elected." I reply, "Why do you say that?"

20. So you automatically assumed that you were being accused of being sexist? |
|
Strange that you would jump to that conclusion right off the bat. I mean, women can get angry when their opinions are devalued, but it doesn't mean that we think the devaluer is sexist. We could just think he's an ass.

My neighbor and very good friend - a Jewish gay man - liked that she's outspoken and "spunky". He'd never vote for her but couldn't understand my contempt for her.
