Kerry was the first to call for Rumsfeld's resignation. Since he's put out the call several times since he first made it, "joined" seems so disingenuous.

How many times did he call for Rummie to be fired during the summer/fall of '04? Many if my memory serves me correctly. JK really seems to inspire selective memory in a lot of people.

It's the same phenomenon which causes people to remembrer the IWR vote but forget his Senate floor statement, his op-ed in the NY Times, his article in Foreign Affairs, his Georgetown speech, his call for regime change in the United States in protest at the start of the war, or any other of his arguments against going to war.
It's also the same phenonmenon which causes people to remember his personal opposition to gay marriage, but forget his opposition to the Defense of Marriage Act, or any other act of support for gay rights.
It's the same phenomenon which causes people to remember ancient connections to the DLC, but forget his liberal voting scores, and forget certain other people's old ties to the DLC.

15. Wow, I had no idea he called for this so far back. |
|
I suppose this is why I trust that he is right about the Iraq war and the way out, he is I suppose what they refer to as being "ahead of his time".

In the midst of all those great sources on Kerry demanding Bush fire Rumsfeld, the Aug 24th one, has Kerry spoke about Abu Ghraib at a union rally.
In addition to calling on Bush to fire Rumsfeld rather than just blame the lowest level people "Kerry, the Democratic presidential nominee, also called on President Bush to appoint another commission to probe the scandal, focused on the chain of command and the Geneva Conventions. "
So, Klein was totally off base - maybe as the "liberal" correspondent of Time, he could have actually covered Kerry's campaign.

7. Maybe it's not just Kerry; maybe the media is run by a bunch of lazy fools |
|
Look, we're super experts about Kerry. I truly wonder if this isn't the tip of the iceberg of a media plagued with errors by a bunch of elitist journalists too lazy to properly research things. They're on a deadline, they remember yesterday that a General called for Rumsfeld to resign, then they hear Kerry say it, so they figure he's "joining them", without checking it out. I also think that they do favors to other politicians like McCain without any research, giving him the benefit of the doubt. This is how everyone is treated depending on whether they're on the media's "good side". The problem and beauty of blogs is that we're learning that the pundits, TV people, and newspaper people may all be flagrant, egotistical, thin skinned, mediocre incompetents, and we're going to have to do SO much work just to know the truth. Ignorance was bliss but those days are OVER . . .
BTW, I think there ARE great and thorough journalists who do excellent work, but they are no doubt the minority.

...how many people's health insurance plans her mansion is worth? Her manicures/pedicures? Her shoes?
Maybe it's time we started putting it in terms as stark as this. "I Lost My Health Insurance, But Tim Russert Has Twenty New Burberry Scarves", or something.

I wish they would get the facts about Bush and the Republicans wrong as much. Instead they seem to lavish credit on Republicans and Bush erroneously and stroke their public image constantly with laudatory labels (such as calling GOP conservatives moderate).

14. It is so wrong that they continue to do this and get away with it. |
|
I realize that people can't be expected to always remember everything that Kerry comments on, but once in a while it would be nice to have them give credit where credit is do. The one consolation I have is that he did send an e-mail to his supporters and had them sign a petition for Rumsfield's removal-I think it is still on one of his websites- and those that signed are sure to remember that Senator Kerry called for this action at least a year ago.
