in here????
I've been visiting quitnet.com and reading there, and posting a bit too. But I am stuck on the DU format and people, and I want to be HERE right now even if it is terribly quiet.
I was reading the older posts from when this group had just started and I was wondering how the original posters were doing. How about those who posted in Aug, Sept, Oct??? How are you doing? Did you make it?? Is it easier yet? Does it finally feel normal to not smoke?
I have a couple questions: What do quitters (what an awful word! how about "nic warriors") here do after a meal? Really, that is the hardest time I think. I don't even want to eat.
Another question: I never drink "hard stuff" BUT every single time I try to quit smoking I have this slight but nagging urge for whiskey and scotch!! I don't give into it because I don't like whiskey or scotch, but the urge stays with me. Is that weird? It's not that I want to drink the stuff until I pass out and thus kill nic cravings. It's that I want the throat burning feeling that this stuff would give me. Maybe I should inhale Vick's Vapor Rub? Maybe I should just try a nice scotch on the rocks? No, it'd probably make my cravings worse.
Anyway. Just rambling here. Good luck to all out there. One day we will feel normal without a cigarette!!!!

1. Hi, yeah, I look in from time to time. |
|
Mainly because I'd like this to help more people the way it encouraged me. Also when I need a boost. I stopped August 3, have slipped up on two occasions (bummed smokes from too willing friends) but didn't buy any (it would be deadly, haha, for me to have them on hand) and it had been long enough that I didn't actually enjoy it like I thought I would. It made me feel bad. So that would be the reason for one cheat. Why would it happen twice?
That's weird about the scotch. Where DO these ideas form and emerge from? But yeah, the little voice is there. "I bet they'd give you one. No. Don't mooch, just buy your own." It's spooky.
It is much better just removing it all from consideration and being healthy and free of it.
Peace and strength to you!

And I was told that smoking is one of the best ways to hide your feelings, (smoke screen?) so the urge to drink seems normal to me. I am a serial quitter and every time I quit I want to go to sleep a lot.
It helps writing in a journal. I'm going on 2 weeks now and I feel different this time. A friend said to me: "Why don't you stop torturing yourself with smoking a week and not smoking a week and just decide that you either a smoker or a non-smoker. For some reason that hit me.
Plus my smoking roommate moved out and that helps a LOT.
