I've taken the oath to myself: it's time.
I spent the weekend reading the experiences from those who have taken Chantix. To be honest with you I couldn't believe what I was reading. It went from the good, the bad, and the ugly, leaving me with almost a sort of anxiety that was described by it former users before I even began the medication!
I need this. I need this not only for myself, but for my family. My partner of 5 years and my daughter of 10 years of age. I need this not only for my health, but for the health of others who have succumbed to the tobacco companies; who filter hundreds of thousands of dollars into interests that are well beyond that of my own. I used to run long-distance. I used to love running, I still do. I want to run again 5K, 10K, 21K a full marathon!
I need this. WE need this. Let's DO this!

3. I opened a second savings account today... |

Part of the motivation behind my quit is the financial implications behind smoking. It's become damn expensive! So as a way to track my progress, I've decided to transfer the $10.12 (pack and a half a day) to this account.
Not sure if this would work for anyone else, however it's all about tailored solutions during your quit.
Good luck to everyone out there!

I'm at day 4.5. Cold. Turkey. I feel fine...well, I've got the cough and the sinusy crap, but otherwise, fine.
My first two and a half days sucked, because I was at altitude and was an anxious mess. I can't sleep at altitude and my body doesn't physically function right (think digestion...), so I really felt bad. But I survived that.
I haven't told my husband yet. When I get back to the US, I will open up a CD, with the remainder of my IRA and add $25 per week, until I've gone 1 year.
Good luck and wish me luck. It's easy for me now because in Mexico, only one person I'm friends with smokes. When I get home, my three best girlfriends all smoke. Two are trying to quit too...so, we'll have to form a little support group.

6. I'm a respiratory therapist, and yes, I used to smoke... |

Been in my field for quite a while, and I primarily do pulmonary function testing now, plus take care of a number of long term patients with long term problems (on ventilators, etc.)
I don't know if I can tell you anything that will make you feel better, but I can be objective with telling you what I see based on 35 years, and maybe give you a tip, or a, "hang in there", or "atta boy/girl".
But I will tell you that you can change for the good, and offer support. You can kick ass again by changing that behavior. Yes, you will.
