Tucker just shut down an anti-drug warrior on TV just now....
Mark Souder (Dumbass, IN) was discussing some anti-drug ads and he was peddling the big lie about marijuana being a gateway drug and how it was a contributing factor in many drug-related ER visits. He even trotted out the old standby about how the stronger grass these days was akin to cocaine.

And that set Tucker off.

In rare form, Tucker held Souder's feet to the fire and asked him about why aren't there ads about teen prescription drug abuse? Souder fumbled a bit and acknowledged the problem. Then Tucker shocked me by asking the question "How many folks have died because of marijuana use"? The right honorable gentleman from IN reiterated himself and said how marijuana was a contributing factor in many of these incidences. Tucker then flatly stated that he knew folks that casually used grass and that Congressman Souder was totally wrong.

Huh? Was that REALLY Tucker Carlson I was watching?

31. I think the cocaine crack got to him more.
You don't have to sing weed's praises to not want to laugh someone out of your face for arguing that it's almost as bad as cocaine. (And if somehow that was an attempt to talk about the addictiveness and not the risk of death, nicotine's far more addictive than either by a mile according to the studies I've heard of, so whatever.)

I am frequently surprised by who I find out is smoking weed. Not saying that Tucker is toking with Toker but you never know.

7. As Bill Maher said, the deal with the "war on drugs" is that...
marijuana is not produced by Merck, Pfizer, Lilly, Wyth, Johnson & Johnson, etc....
Souder is a Repug. He will defend his masters (stated above) to his death.

24. Really, why should drug companies and chemical companies be the only ones who
kill us often without our knowing what their "safe", FDA approved shit does over long time exposer to them. Right now theres a battle going on in Midland Michigan over the effects of life long exposer to dioxins and the health risks people were exposed to without their knowledge. Dow chemical has been dumping dioxins into the rivers for god knows how long and they feel they shouldn't have to pay to clean it up, their excuse, dioxins have settled into the river beds and theres no way to get rid of it now. Whats even sadder is the majority of people who live in the contaminated areas don't believe the dioxins are all that dangerous.

23. Okay okay
How many years until this gateway drug leads to others? My friend uh, joejoe jimmy joeson has been doing that thing for over twenty years and never felt like moving to another or even a need for a fix, and he has a classic addictive personality trait. I like that question though, who has died or suffered disease from it? Contrasting it with alcohol would be even better.

33. Surprising drug facts
http://www.druglibrary.org/schaffer/MISC/addictiv.htm

Relative Addictiveness of Various Substances
In Health, Nov/Dec 1990

100 Nicotine
99 Ice, Glass (Methamphetamine smoked)
98 Crack
93 Crystal Meth (Methamphetamine injected)
85 Valium (Diazepam)
83 Quaalude (Methaqualone)
82 Seconal (Secobarbital)
81 Alcohol
80 Heroin
78 Crank (Amphetamine taken nasally)
72 Cocaine
68 Caffeine
57 PCP (Phencyclidine)
21 Marijuana
20 Ecstasy (MDMA)
18 Psilocybin Mushrooms
18 LSD
18 Mescaline

http://www.druginfo.adf.org.au/article.asp?ContentID=heroin

In its pure form, heroin is relatively non-toxic to the body, causing little damage to body tissue and other organs. However, there are some long-term effects, including dependence, constipation, menstrual irregularity and infertility in women, loss of sex drive in men, intense sadness and cognitive impairment.

http://web4health.info/en/answers/add-alcohol-longrun.htm

Those who often drink too much run a high risk of suffering physical damage. The level of damage depends on the amount. The organs that are used for the absorption and digestion of alcohol, like the stomach, the liver and the pancreas, are vulnerable. The brain also suffers from continuous abuse.

The liver is an important organ for the breakdown of alcohol. Excessive alcohol use can cause fatty degeneration of the liver, causing so-called fatty liver. Liver research has shown that probably more than half of the alcohol addicts have fatty liver. This can cause nausea, vomiting, lack of appetite, loss of weight and fever. After stopping alcohol use, the liver can recover from fatty liver.

The most known incurable liver disorder caused by alcohol abuse is liver cirrhosis. More.

Other frequent diseases of the organs are gastritis (infection of the mucous membrane of the stomach) and inflammation of the pancreas. Gastritis can cause stomach bleeding; inflammation of the pancreas causes lower absorption of nutrients, causing, among others, loss of weight.
