Has anyone been listening to Al Franken today?I am so moved... |
It is his next to the last show, and he has pretty much devoted it to talking about the troops he met,and how their needs are not being met.He has become overcome by emotion so many times...to tears several times...talking about their lack of body armor, decreases in veteran's funding.I have a feeling tomorrow's show is going to be one for the history books.

1. Yes... with one ENORMOUS lump in my throat... |
He's always been an emotional guy, but what with leaving the station on Wednesday and the cumulative emotion from all that has gone on with our troops in Iraq, his emotions are raw and on the surface. So, too, apparently are mine.

3. Yes, it is heart warming and so painful as well. We can disagree |
here on DU about him as a radio host, but I will support his candidacy. Even my totally leftist son is planning to help his campaign if he goes to college in Minnesota next year. Al means what he says; has learned over his three years on AAR that his preconceived notions of trust in government were wrong; his eyes are open and he has made incredibly valuable contacts.
I'll be listening tomorrow and cheering when he announces. (Wouldn't have said that three years ago, btw.)

4. And ALL the regulars are going to be on tomorrow. |
Al quotes his wife Frannie as saying he "cries at McDonald's commercials." But it has been very emotional.

6. I'm not sure how it works if you're not a member. There are probably bootlegs |
around at the bittorrent sites, and you might want to check with the people who run Air America Place, who keep the archives. http://airamericaplace.com/boards/index.php

will hunt around tonight when I get home. If anybody finds a link in the meantime I would really be grateful for a heads up and probably wouldn't be alone in that.

7. I've broken down and cried several times my darn self. |
Once I was holding on line and Al was reading something that got to me. I broke down crying and the poor company rep I was trying to communicate with was really nice about it. I was able to explain what was going on. I think he took pity on me and instead of giving me the usual company spiel that I've gotten in the past the rep was helpful to a fault.

9. I was taken by surprise the first time-I was like"OMG-he's crying" |
That's all it took. When he read the phone rules for soldiers,I cried.I remember the first phone call I got from my son...the one where he told me"don't worry,mom-we aim low with the kids"...I'll never forget that day.

14. I look forward to that day, also |
I hope he beats Coleman. I was watching "Stuart Saves His Family" on cable over the weekend-maybe it's not the funniest movie ever made, but the first 45 minutes or so are good, before it starts taking 12 step bullshit seriously.
