4. I leave my little girl in the car when it is cold when I shop... |

No worries... Of course she has four furry legs and a thick beautiful furry coat the envy of all who see her, loves snow more than life itself and has no trouble burying herself in the plush blanket and down bedding I put out for her across the backseat to stay very snoozy warm. :)
This guy is an idiot and not only because he leaves the kids in the car...

5. 5 and 6 years old, 27 degrees. Car was probably already warm from being driven there. |
|
BFD!
I played outside at temperatures lower than that. I doubt these kids were in danger of death.

20. Leaving 5 & 6yo kids alone in a parking lot? That's just some piss-poor parenting. |

6. As much of a dumshit as this guy is |
|
I somehow do not see his crime to be as serious as leaving a baby locked in a car with the windows rolled up in 100 degree weather. How long was the idiot going to be in wally world? Half hour? An hour? Long enough to buy his beer and pork rinds. Nobody is going to freeze to death or even become hypothermic in 27 degree temperatures in such a brief time. The truck cab would stay warm that long after the engine was shut off.
Anyway these kids were old enough that they could have left the vehicle by themselves if they got too cold.
Okay, Cleetus ain't father of the year but this really doesn't sound like child abuse to me.

8. To me, it is the fact he leaves them in a car alone that is the issue |
|
Temperature not withstanding.... They are too young to be left outside by themselves if you ask me in this day and age... Too many nuts and pedophiles around...

Clearly, we do hear about these incidents now, when they certainly must have occurred at some level decades ago... Nonetheless, I would not take the chance now in most areas of the country.

14. ROFLMAO--Your profile says you're from CA... |
|
but, you talk like you live here in the south. You do know southern culture, well:
"Long enough to buy his beer and pork rinds?" "Cleetus ain't father of the year, but...."
Being from the South, I have to say that's funny as hell. (And, pretty damned accurate!)

19. I agree - the kids should have been supervised, but they weren't going to freeze |
|
Edited on Fri Jan-04-08 05:08 PM by gollygee
27 in a car with sun coming in the windows and two little bodies radiating heat. The car won't get below freezing. Plus, the truck would have been warm on the way over to Wal-Mart and if he was going to be in and out in a short period of time, it would retain it's heat for a while. And yeah, they would have been able to get out in the incredibly unlikely circumstance that it would have gotten that cold.
But the kids should have been supervised. It isn't like a convenience store where you can see the truck out the window - that would be less troubling. The police and article are focusing on the wrong issue. Stupid but not child abuse.
This was normal in the 70s. My mom and dad left us outside in the car all the time - just not when it was really hot.

My sister and I did our share of waiting in the car for our folks to finish their errands. As long as we were not endangered -- and we certainly weren't -- it was nobody's business but our parents'.
