3. Love it ... also, what is Franken's stand on marriage for all? |
|
that will decide whether any politician gets any donation from my family from this day forward

one is a thread about things that really only effect a particular state (Ca, and while you may take it as a symbol in your state it will not effect the law there directly)) while the other is about an office that is national in scope and effects (potentially) the entire country.

you seem a bit confused. This thread is about 2 different situations and you ask about one of them yet do not define which you mean.

you know what I mean - the voting for the house seat is for registered voters of the state in question
this is for the people of Minnesota to decide

you think you have a logic trap so you can beat up on dems, well your logic is FAIL and you only show how clueless you are.

7. I suppose that you could say that, |
|
but they were posted by two different people and they're apples and oranges.
Nikki Stone1 doesn't believe in out of state money supporting propositions.
Pathansen believes in using out of state money to support recounts.
The first one is for an amendment to a state's constitution, so you can logically argue that it's not the business of anyone outside of the state.
The second one is for a recount for a federal level office, so you could argue that everyone in the country has a stake in it.
Even if it wasn't apples and oranges, these were posted by two different people with two different opinions. Differences of opinion are allowed on DU, we're not robots. There are all kinds of conflicting opinions on DU, so these two threads aren't really unusual.

13. Donations to Franken are NOT to support the recount -- that's already paid for by the state. |
|
The recount going on right now is mandated by Minnesota state law for ANY race where the number of votes separating the candidates is less than .01% of the total vote. The state pays for it.
The donations for Franken are to help him pay for lawyers. Both candidates will have legal teams involved in observing the hand recount.

15. The post you cited made it sound like Franken had to pay for the actual recount itself. |
|
I was merely making sure the facts about how the recount is actually funded are known.

my point is entirely about outside money affecting results and how it's that desired result that leads people's principles
if it's good for me - great
if it's bad for me - no way
there is no consistency

19. I don't really care where the money comes from. What I hate is legislation through proposition. |
|
That's where we need to start working. Rights, taxation, constitutional amendments should not be left to popular vote. We elect people for a reason, and if we're going to legislate through proposition, why are we electing people?
