Follow up on Archway Cookies / Lance's Snacks
Edited on Fri Jan-02-09 12:50 PM by Lisa0825
After the story was posted about the Archway Factory being reopened after being bought by Lance's, I emailed Lance's to thank them for doing right by the laid off employees and told them they had earned a new customer. I also said I planned to buy their products to send to the troops as was suggested in the original thread.

(original thread here: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=389&topic_id=4710876 )

I just got the following reply, and thought others would be interested.

Hello,

Thank you for your kind words. Like you, thousands of people felt compelled to comment after reading or seeing the CNN story. We heard from people in nearly every state and quite a few soldiers stationed overseas. We have been overwhelmed by the heartfelt expressions of gratitude for Lance's approach in reopening the Archway bakery in Ashland, OH.

Lance is excited to welcome the former Archway employees into the Lance family and we're looking forward to getting Archway products back in stores as quickly as possible. Getting room on the store shelves is the key ingredient for getting the plant back to its full capacity and putting more people back to work in Ashland.

Many people said they were looking forward to getting their favorite Archway items back, and others said they had not historically bought Archway, but would do so in the future. We are working hard to regain shelf space in stores and get Archway back as quickly as possible.

Feel free to let your retailer know that you are looking for Archway cookies; this will play a big part in helping us get back on the shelves quickly.

Have a very Happy Holiday and New Year,

David Singer
President and CEO
Lance, Inc

I will definitely be contacting my local supermarket (QFC) and asking that they put Archway and Lancers on the shelves as soon as possible.

5. Thought I would let you know about an experience I had at Wal-Mart over the last few days.....
Edited on Fri Jan-02-09 01:26 PM by 1776Forever
I went to Wal-mart to pick up something for my dog that I unfortunately cannot find anywhere else where I live and saw a bunch of Christmas cookies in a Santa tin that were 75% off so I bought 1. I got home and since I had been in a hurry I took the tin out and opened it - then I did what I usually do in the store before I buy any food item - I read the back of the tin - yep - you guessed it they were made in China. Darn! The tin is nice but the cookies went into the trash!

I then sent an email to the people in IL that sell these at Wal-Mart and asked them if they had checked them for melamine - still waiting to hear back.

I did find this on the net:

Melamine Tainted Cookies Recalled in US
Oct 20, 2008 | Parker Waichman Alonso LLP

Cookies made in China are the latest product subject to a US recall due to concerns that they are tainted with the industrial chemical melamine. Lotte USA, Inc. of Battle Creek, Mich., the distributor of the recalled Koalas' March cookies, said in a statement that no illnesses have been attributed to the potentially-toxic cookies.

........

Archway can't make the cookies fast enough for me!

6. yes! And I will do the same.
interesting. I have a handmade card company. I was really excited when I found a local store called handmade galleries. When I arrived, they were selling chinese junk. They just sent me a letter asking for my opinion of the "experience". I told them exactly what I think.
It saddened me to find that the one place supposedly made for our handmade crafts had a bunch of cheap chinese stuff. So when a company does the right thing, count on me!
Maybe little by little, we can make the changes our country needs.

7. Thank you for posting this.
Friday, December 26th I called Lance Snacks to tell them that I would go to Target and buy their products, would contact Krogers, Remke's, Meiers and Biggs asking them when I can expect to buy Archway cookies, and would tell everyone I spoke with about this story. I've done all of these thing and will buy Archway cookies as soon as I see them on the grocers shelf. Companies with integrity should be rewarded.

8. Excellent!
I hope they see BOOMING sales so their story makes the news again. Corporate America needs to see that doing right by their people will be rewarded by the public.

I wonder if Mr. Singer would consider taking over one of the automakers?

11. I went to Target the other night with the express purpose of
buying some Lance cookies.

I couldn't tell which were the Lance ones.

They have one Target brand made in Canada, and I would consider that a safe choice, but it wouldn't be made by Lance.

Most of their Target brand and "Archer Farms" brand cookies and crackers just said "Distributed by Target, Mnpls, MN.

Has anyone pinpointed the Lance-made cookies?

Thanks.

12. Since Archway actually closed down, many places are out of their cookies....
Lance's brand snacks can be found on this website, and they plan to start shipping out Archway/Mother's cookies as soon as they can.
