Tony Hayward will NOT be fired...soon |
|
He's the hate-magnet, and the big shots at BP need him to be the shit-catcher. No one could hate him MORE, so why push someone new into the spotlight? He's their lightning rod.
They know that the "investigation" will drag on for a LONG time, and somewhere down the line, BP will probably "dissolve" and be re-grouped as a new entity.. That will be when the lawsuits get dismissed, and the decks get cleared of all the "Gulf-spillers".
We WILL have Tony to kick around for a while. The only fly in the ointment, is that Tony may croak from the stress, or he may just decide to quit. I doubt that he could personally be held responsible for much, and since he "knows where the bodies are buried", BP will provide the best counsel for him.. Once he returns to and stays in the UK, he's home-free..and rich.

4. If England make the second round in the World Cup |

he may just resign and head for the box with the Royals in RSA. Remember the Royals were major BP share holders.

5. Yeah, BP will keep Tony and let him become the object of everyone's hate. |
|
He's the face of BP right now, and they need him for that reason alone.
Later, he will "retire" and will get a generous golden parachute so he lives comfortably in luxury for the rest of his life. And Tony knows it, so he knows it's worthwhile putting up with the abuse for now.
Things will be great for him later on. :eyes:

No reason to replace him now. His sucessor will be just as hated as Tony.
Let Tony soak up all the vile and hatred. Once the well is capped and cleanup underway (signs of pollution in high traffic areas fading into memory) THEN and ONLY THEN you bring in the "new face of BP".
And this "new guy" will be all about "safety", and "responsibility", and "environment". I would expect to see him shaking hands with biologists, and handing giant (both in physical size & $$$ amount) checks to enviromental groups.
Talking about how we need 21st century technology to face the challenges of deep water drilling. Likely an announcement that BP is buying a drilling tech company so they can design better BOPs.
The whole song and dance.
A way to split the past from future for BP. It has been done many times in the past and will be done many times in future.
Tony is a lightning rod. You don't get rid of the lightning rod until the storm has passed.
