Look At This Guy

With tons of thanks to Indy op for bringing this here
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=389x954713

This man is so conflicted
and we are doing it to him

To us he's our hopeful salvation

But to him

He's smart enough to know he'd be putting his life on the line
Think Tipper, think about his kids
He has to be there for them

Think
JFK
RFK
MLK

The BFEE is a formidable threat to stand up against

Please give him some slack

Don't ask him to do
what we don't have guts enough
to do for ourselves

Think about it

1. Did you just say Gore would be assassinated if he ran?

4. You got to admit that it's a real possibility
Look at the snear on Cheney's face

You can bet Al is taking that into account

Think about it

They've killed all our heros in the past

Why would they stop now?

I don't buy it.

I can't buy it.

He has to run.

Help me Obie Wan, you are my only hope. The needs of the many outwiegh the needs of the few or the one.

Damn, reduced to typing angst and quoting sci fi...cake, CAKE! Somebody give me some DAMN CAKE!!!

Whew...wake up. Wake Up.

Time to ride the pony till it hurts...

2. Yeah.
That picture does not make me happy. I want him to run, but what would be the cost to him and his family, once again?

How selfish are we? Or is it selfish to ask, at all?

3. I agree.
Not until we are willing to take to the streets and lay it down.

Till then we should all just eat the damn cake and shut the fuck up.

For some reason, that just doesn't sit well with me...what gives?

assumed apprehension to run for president and that the photo was capturing Gore contemplating running.

33. as was i. that is why i said what i said.
i know he is talking about the man and NOT just that pic of the man. i know (possibly better than anyone on here how powerful the repukes are) how dangerous an assignment i am asking him (as a citizen) to take. he is used to danger. were it possible i would help to protect him. i LOVE that pic myself and do not necessarily see it as perhaps it was intended.

adjectives i would choose to describe this pic:

reflective
humble
pensive
grateful
conflicted
presidential

just wanted to make myself clear...

:hi:

8. Exactly correct, Wiley.
Any REAL, or Perceived, threat to "their" power will only end badly for the candidate that threatens.

Makes you wonder why anyone would run against them.....but, of course, that is their desire.

Dirty tricks committee is alive & well in these United States.

to protect him

I won't again

if it's worth that much to us
and it really should

We have to get the ball rolling ourselves

I'm certain if we do
He'll be there for us

But it's just not fair any other way

16. So,
you're a fellow Tennessean! I live 30 miles WEST of Nashville, while you're 30 miles EAST. Interesting. You apparently know him personally, so I respect your opinion of his current stance.
When he left the environmental awards ceremony held about a month ago in Nashville & the reporters were shoving mikes in his face, someone yelled, "run Al, run" and he just grimaced. I strongly felt then that he would not be running. However, time has a way of changing things. Wonder how he feels about today's roll-over by Dems?

19. No. I met him once, but I don't know him
His family farm is 20 miles or so upriver from me.

When I met him was a long time ago, after he came back from Vietnam and was a reporter for the Nashville Tennessean
doing a story on Stephen Gaskin and the Farm, back when it was really a commune

A long Long time ago

I'm not gonna take credit where credit is not due

I went to a different military academy in TN so I understand how that makes a person
act like they've got a stick up their butt. I got over it, finally. So did he.

My mom who worked with special needs kids used to take care of his mentally challenged cousin

I'd love to be able to spend some unofficial time with the guy
but that has never happened

I'm just a human and can see what he's probably up against

That's all

21. I see
I remember that Stephen Gaskins article. Been awhile. I've been to The Farm, they were once one of my customers when I sold "rags". I love the place.

He has seen the real side of war & the reality of small town America first hand. Those things keep one humble. Amazing that he came out of the Beltway w/some integrity still intact; so many do not.

If he does not run, he is still being of service promoting saving our planet....another admirable endeavor.

25. Cool!
Since urban sprawl is beginning to encroach upon us, & retirement is nigh at hand in a few years, I have suggested to my husband that we move to The Farm. He's not ready for that much communal living, just yet. I could live there in a minute. I think the Gaskins brought TN out of the dark ages during the '60's & exposed them to progressive thinking. Many progressive thinkers came out of The Farm & into service here.

24. FUCK that noise
I'll sign up to be on his Secret Service detail right now. Anyone that wants to take a shot at him had better use a high-powered rifle because that bullet is going through me first. If we really want to take our country back we have to be willing to make it OUR butts on the line. We have to walk the walk.

I will if he will.

That's what I mean. We need to give this guy enough comfort space
for him to feel safe enough to run

but then again. Malcolm X had some good bodyguards too. So did

JFK
RFK
MLK

and look what happened

I don't know the answer

30. It's an interesting thread.
I do not think that fear of bodily harm is a factor in Al Gore's decision-making in regard to if he will go for the democratic nomination. He has run before, and he may run again. Entering that arena brings with it issues that are far more closely related to character assassination, than being shot like JFK/MLK/RFK, at least for Gore. (I do think that this administration has fed the climate of hatred and fear to an extent that it increases the risks for one of the candidates in the democratic primary.)

Gore's high-profile work on the climate probably creates as many enemies in high places as would running for president. I admire the courage he shows in taking the path he is on today.

I do agree that people should respect whatever decision he makes. I'm kind of reminded of when people wanted John Lennon to agree to get back with the other (former) Beatles. And there were plenty of people who thought the world would be a much better place if the Beatles were a group again -- just like many people think Gore 4 President would be the answer to many of our problems.

27. I don't know why anybody wants that job.
It's a big thankless pain in the ass and Bush just made it 1,000 times worse. I wish Gore or Clark could be our next President, but sometimes I'm just glad they're out of the political muck and are safely doing wonderful things on the sidelines.

31. Gore isn't in the War Party, so he's in danger.
The War Party kills everyone who stands in their way.
Gore is brave, though.
And he is a man of Faith.
Thus, I'd venture that he's not worried about the personal consequences.
He does love his family, though; and for them, only Gore knows what he would do.

Regarding us and what we would do:
Anyone who's been brave enough to stand up to these warmongers has been ID'd by now.
Good golly, there are a lot of us.
