when the tourists start rolling in and memorial day comes around, the forests are usually shut down, because of fire danger. most fires are caused by humans. people that don't live in these conditions have NO idea that you can't throw a cigarette butt out a car window, that you can't build a fire in the forest, that you can't shoot off fireworks on july 4th.

we've had two major fires right here since 1996 and another in 2001 near los alamos. it is scary to watch your world burn up!

but this year, we FINALLY have enough moisture in the trees! first time in over ten years, i think. i will be praying for people in drier places, because i know what it feels like to not know if you'll have to evacuate on a moment's notice due to a change in the wind.....
