just a step on the way. There's still plenty of resistance to marriage, though CUs ought to pass. There was talk for a while about an all-or-nothing gambit, where the supporters of gay marriage would hold out for the real thing. But I think most have realized that once CUs are commonplace, and Jane and Joe Sixpack realize that Bruce and Greg down the street are just nice neighbors, and the Sixpack marriage hasn't been horribly threatened by them, marriage will be the next step.

It's going to take a little time, I suspect. But I'm absolutely convinced it will be a reality -- and faster than many on the right think.
