My sincerest sympathies. I, too, have been married to a dyed in the wool, death penalty, self styled 'conservative.' Rabid anti-abortionist, lovely, loyal to me-to a fault, compassionate, hard-working, generous mate. One who doesn't want to even hear about the horrid criminals in charge: it gives her headaches and makes her so nervous, she can't sleep.

Last November she voted for Kerry, now understands that the issue in not abortion at all, it's about privacy and self determination. She still gives money and clothing to the anti-A folks and bashes Bush (Gasp---in front of her boss, the bank president.) She understands the damage to the world and humans and deplores the crap they've done and are continuing to do.
She doesn't really understand my committment to bettering the world but she knows I do and that seems to be enough.
With love and clarity it is possible for your mate to see the you in you and that can give them room to get over the fear that keeps them stuck. My best wishes in your quest!
