2. Castro States A Common Theme in Latin Politics
The idea of charting a different course, independent of that forced on them by the USA, is a constant theme in Latin American politics ranging from those on the extreme right (Porfirio Diaz of Mexico and Rosas of Argentina) to the far left (Fidel Castro as well as Allende of Chile), except when the leader chooses to be a shameless collaborator (like Fugencio Batista of Cuba and the Somozas of Nicaragua).
