The Iranians don't need to take out our submarines, they need to shut down the straight if we attack them. I honestly don't know enough to do anything other than point people to the available information (the sci-am article from a few years back and the google-able fallout from the kursk affair.) If they can shut the straight down for a week or more I think they have basically won round one of the upcoming conflict, and I assume that is their analysis as well.
