8. This issue isn't cut and dried ...
Am I to assume that anyone of 5 billion impoverished people in this world has a right to claim American citizenship if they can just find a way to physically cross our borders and then work and learn English? That seems to be the argument.

Illegal immigration brings voters to the Democrats and it brings money to the Republicans. That's just the way it is.

I have a brother-in-law who is in construction who is a lifelong Democrat. He says that several years ago as the housing boom got in full swing in our area, it looked like he was going to be able to earn a decent living for the first time in his life since contractors were so desperate for workers. But he says that about 6 months later the largest contractor in town one day started bringing in workers from Mexico and soon most of the others followed. Now he's given up on being able to save for his kids' college fund or anything like that, and he'll be lucky to have work at all if the housing market keeps slowing. He just can't compete against people who are willing to live in an apartment with 6 other workers.

Now put yourself in my brother-in-law's position. He's supported the Democratic party his entire life and he sees that it is actively promoting the very same illegal immigration that is costing him a shot at a comfortable living. Would you not be a good bit disillusioned?

So anyway, I find it ironic that immigration is now a big Democratic issue when what it does it take money from the blue collar workers and put it in the hands of the fat cats. Pretty soon we're going to have third world standards for blue collar labor with a fat and sassy business aristocracy. But at least our Democratic politicians will control Congress so I guess that's what's important.
