5. Mother Jones Magazine could have predicted something like this

The zine did a truthful account of how the ability of American employers to bring in undocumented workers leads to rampant decline in wages, rampant decline in safety measures on the job.

They focused on the meat-packing industry that until what? fifteen years ago or so paid its unionized workers a decent living.

Now that the ubndocumented are allowed to be the wrokforce, the floors at the packing houses are slippery with blod. The workforce is expected to produce at such a high rate of speed that many workers are injured in a short span of time due to carpal tunnel syndrom, and also outright injuries - being cut and sliced and diced by machinery, etc.

Once the worker is injured, they are thrown out of the employers' work list and payroll. Then the local communities see their bill for social services spiral upwards, including the medical treatment of the injured and laid off workers.

Corporte America needs to be held accountable, whether through lawsuits or changes in state law that force the industries employing people to be responsible for decent wages, enforcement of real safety standards and also medical care.
