38. Easy: Ex Servicemen's Behavior
I think it's fairly easy to deduce that it wasn't either servicemens' or ex-servicemens' behavior. I know some from various spectra's and they wouldn't spray-paint a veteran's memorial to bash George the Lesser Bush. That behavior seems to be run out of them in boot camp or other places the military gets trained. The military and ex-military types seem to think that vandalizing a war memorial insults their fellow soldiers or the ones in the military before them.

Unfortunately, that leaves two categories of vandal. One is the right-wing agent provocateur. The other, alas, are infantile leftists.

Unfortunately, I fear it's the latter bunch. Some of these kids still haven't gotten it through their heads that the sixties and seventies are over. The old Weather Underground is kaput. Most progressives these days are trying to reforge the traditional ties with military veterans from shirtsleeve and middle class veterans that the Democratic Party used to have before Vietnam--that means respecting veteran's memorials and not burning flags. Some of the anarchist/punks think that spraying sacred places will somehow win friends outside of their little circle of closed minds.

I wish it weren't so. Unfortunately, it's hard to catch the little idiots before they start and re-educate them.
