Ohio saw fewer mass layoffs in March, although they claimed more jobs.

The Buckeye State saw 31 mass layoff actions last month, resulting in 4,167 initial claims for unemployment, the Bureau of Labor Statistics said Thursday. A mass layoff event is defined as 50 or more jobs cut from a single location within 30 days.

In February, Ohio saw 46 mass layoff events, leading to 4,142 initial claims for unemployment. In March of 2003, the state saw 40 mass layoff events, which resulted in 4,988 initial claims from unemployment.
