The Bush administration said Thursday Sen. John Kerry should condemn all soft money political advertising and not just the ads critical of the Democratic challenger.

"The president had condemned all of the ads by these shadowy groups, and he has called on Sen. Kerry to join him in calling for an end to all the unregulated, soft money activity that is going on in this campaign," White House spokesman Scott McClellan said. ..

"The president has been on the receiving end of more than $62 million in negative, false attacks from these shadowy groups," McClellan said.

He added that Bush had intended to purge the political system of soft money ads by signing the campaign finance reform legislation into law and noted Kerry also voted in favor of the legislation.

"Apparently, Sen. Kerry was against this soft money activity previously, too. But now he appears to be for it as long as it benefits his campaign," McClellan said.
