The next pope should not come from Germany, says a prominent author on the anti-Semitism and Nazi history of her German homeland.

"Consider it a misfortune (if the pope) comes from a devout Catholic community," said Anna Rosmus. "We hope it will be someone from Africa where the church is alive."

"Take any old geezer, but refrain from Ratzinger....

Rosmus met Pope John Paul II when he first visited Germany and embraced his willingness to be open to the Jewish community. She is doubtful that Ratzinger can follow in his footsteps.
