2. Hmo's are cheaper because they cover people who choose them
because they do not have catastrophic illnesses and feel that they can get by with the coverage that they offer. Medicare HMO's are fine if you don't need expensive ongoing treatments like dialysis or chemotherapy. When you have to start paying the 20% for those types of ongoing treatments (and some medical facilities are now requesting payment up front) the costs can be huge and can eat up a life savings over time. One of the largest Medicare HMO's sold their policies with the promise that they would be a medicare replacement,
They gave the state no oversight and made it illegal for the insured to purchase another supplemental policy. Try dropping that and getting a supplemental insurance when something catastrophic does happen!! Insurance is such a tricky business. HMO's and private insurances that take over for Medicare need to really provide the same level of care for the people that they would have with Medicare and a good supplemental. This sounds like a scam in the making for another bunch of Junta boy's pals.
