5. I thought here in America that Primaries were the one time the people
get to really express their will. This is supposed to be
democracy -- It should be expected that challenges will
be mounted.

Since many many Democrats participated in the Ark challenge,
it stands to reason, there were very strong feelings and
emotions underlying it. They probably felt the letter writing,
e-mailing etc were being cast into file 13 in the recipient's
offices. Add to that the "watered down legislation", having
special issues ignored oe "explained away" the constant rightward
approach to everything and the general perception of being
cast under the bus and you got it people took action. Taking people for
granted is the worst insult in the world. So they decided
to fight back. Good for them and they deserve a lot of credit.
They used the democratic process.

At times, I wonder myself, about Senators who come here as
Democrats and vote as Republicans on very important legislation.
What am I supporting. Look, I am center left--not center.
I understand and even appreciate compromise. I resent
the fact that we have too many who will give the store away
to the Republicans. Nor do I believe I am the only one
feeling this way.

Your post was excellent. Just need to vent a little.
