39. Their point is

Here is the line of their reasoning.

1) Photos are much more emotional than mere words (or numbers).

2) Photos (and even worse, film) get more play on TV... more
Americans get their info from TV than, say, newspapers.

3) By establishing a policy that highly restricts reporters in
the field, Americans will not see Vietnam type images every night.

4) By completely restricting the photos and filming of KIAs
"homecoming", they reduce the soldiers killed to mere numbers
( which can be manipulated ).

5) By releasing all of the photos requested, including photos NOT of
soldiers KIA, but of astronauts in an accident, they planted
a potential "controversy" if the photos get any attention.

6) The controversy takes away the impact of the photos of caskets
themselves.

7) They will only stop this war if a overwhelming majority of
Americans stop supporting it.

8) History has shown that Americans won't support it if the war,
in all of its hideous aspects, are on the nightly news every day.

9) THEREFORE, MUST KEEP PHOTOS OFF THE TV... AND IF CAN'T, THEN
MAKE IT OUT THAT THEY ARE FAKE PHOTOS AND THAT THOSE THAT SEEK TO
HAVE THE PHOTOS PUBLISHED ARE DOING SO IN A TRAITOROUS ACT USING
FAKE OR FALSE PHOTOS FOR POLITICAL PURPOSE.

10) War continues.
