Think of it this way. The right's real agenda is driven by the Corporate Elites. The Economic Conservatives and worse. But the rich on their own cannot hold the people is thrall. They needed an allie. One that could bring to focus a great number of people that could be counted on to vote as a block. Thus they found the religious right.

The RR(religious right) offers the CEs(Corporate Elites) a lot of advantages. In their most basic form they are single issue voters. Once worked into a frenzy they can be made to see a strong central government as an enemy just as the CEs do. With manipulative leaders guiding them and hungry for power of their own deals can be made behind to scenes to deliver huge numbers of voters on critical issues.

Thus it is that they sell George as a man of simple faith. He dowls out his words in very simplistic seemingly common sense ideas. Yet they are highly tuned spins on situations designed to sway the RR to their support.
