Polls show Kerry, Bush still even in W.Va.

By Chris Wetterich
Staff writer

As John Kerry closed the Democratic National Convention and embarked on a tour of battleground states, a new poll shows him tied with President Bush in West Virginia.

Kerry, the Democratic nominee, has 47 percent to Bush’s 44 percent, according to the American Research Group poll released Thursday. The results are within the poll’s four-point margin of error.

Independent candidate Ralph Nader, whose campaign submitted signatures to get him on West Virginia’s ballot Thursday, has 3 percent, and 6 percent of those polled are undecided. The poll was conducted Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.

The numbers for Kerry and Bush are identical to a poll the group released on June 17, and the results have not changed much since March 24, when the group showed Kerry and Bush tied at 46 percent in the state.
