They do tie in together. But I still think Peak Oil, with all of it's implications, is large enough to stand on its own as a separate topic. At the very least, it must be a separate subset of the energy discussion.

It should have been the key topic in this election cycle. But both Democrats and Republicans conducted business as ususal, as if there was never any need to worry. We naturally expect that from the BFEE. But Kerry should have used it as a blunt object to bludgeon the Bush regime for their reckless pursuit of diminishing fossil fuels without foresight of the ultimate consequences.

Sooner or later (and probably much sooner), we simply aren't going to be able to suck what we need out of the earth to keep up our livelihood. If we had continued what Jimmy Carter had started back during the energy crisis of the 1970s, we'd be in a much better position to handle this problem today. Today, we are so far behind, and the Bush Regime, gluttonous, greedy bastards that they are, will very likely do nothing to even begin to try and avert this crisis during the next four years.

Peak Oil has to become the major focus of our counterattack over the next four years. Our very future depends on it.
