11. Are they elected for life in any states?

In Pennsylvania, they are elected, but they must run for a retention election every 10 years. This a simple up or down vote where votes decide if they should remain in office. There is mandatory retirement at age 70.

In Texas they are elected to a fixed term and and must run for reelection.

Does anyone know of any states where judeges are elected for life? :shrug:
