There is adequate data to show that Terri was always able to swallow to some degree. Swallowing studies show a scale of swallowing abilities. The feeding tube is placed for adequate protection that she doesn't aspirate, but looks like she can swallow (she may aspirate some of what she swallows) as I had thought.
Swallowing is not always an all or nothing task.
