I find the whole Shiavo spectacle quite disgusting as well, but I don't think it will necessarily win more converts to the Republican Party. It is energizing the fundie base, but they're already a lost cause politically. The Democrats have been relatively silent (and aren't particularly associated with te removal of the feeding tube), while the silent majority (70% in the polls) feel the politicians should butt out.
