26. gooboy, it's called "managing up"
I repeat this so much that I'm sure folks are getting tired of it but here it is again:

If you are saddled with an elected official who doesn't seem to know his/her job, then it is your responsibility to "manage up" - let that person know what they are to do. You call, write, email and fax with clear instructions:

*vote to save Soc Sec
*save the filibuster
*get rid of Delay

etc, etc.

If enough people do this, then the elected official will vote the way that you want him/her to vote.

Yes, it's pathetic that you should have to do this but if that elected official isn't doing a good job, then you have no choice.

You can't be nasty but you can be firm. You have to remind them that they are elected by you, that you are a voter, and that you are watching what they do.

Manage up. Don't sit back and wait for them to do what they should do - tell them what to do.
